Ashley CC 2024 Roundup and 2025 Information.

We are unlikely to forget the rain that seemed to go on forever and caused the delayed start to the 2024 cricket season. Despite the rain and phrases such as ‘waterlogged ground’ and ‘damp wicket’ the season proved to be a success for Ashley.

Our 1st Team, having been promoted to Division Two last year, played a very competitive season. With Alex Morfitt taking on the role of captain and Amad making over 700 runs and taking over 30 wickets, the 1st team maintained their Division Two status. They are ready to fight another season next year.

The 2nd Team had a really good season and were once again victims of the weather when they missed out on promotion on the last day because of the rain. The whole squad made a fantastic effort this season. Many juniors made their maiden appearance.

The 3rd Team had a very good season overall which resulted in a third place finish narrowly missing promotion. The third team squad was a successful blend of ‘old stagers’ and some very capable juniors. This solid squad gathered momentum in the second half of the season with nine wins in the last eleven games, only losing to the top two teams Urmston and Timperley. Special mentions go to player and batsman of the season, Joe Greening, and bowling award winner Jack Munnery.

The 4th Team’s season began with great optimism. The changing room exuded confidence. This year a great mix of junior and senior players provided a perfectly balanced team to challenge for the league. There were memorable achievements with the entire squad contributing to key wins. The 4th team lost just one game throughout the whole season and were justifiably crowned League Champions. Next season the 4ths will take on the Premier League. This will give the whole club something to look forward to watching next year.

The OVER 40s won promotion from Division Two of the Central League to Division One and succeeded in beating Bowdon Vale to go up as Champions. Well done to everyone that contributed to their fantastic success.
Things proved a little trickier for them when they took on our own U15s and then a mixed team of U15, 16,17 and 18s in a two part nail biter at the end of the season. The older juniors proved a little too much for the older gents. No doubt there will be cries for a rematch next year. We will look forward to that.

We welcomed Vision Cricket as our new club kit provider. Vision Cricket also became our Junior Shirt Sponsor. We are very grateful to Phil and his team for supporting Ashley Cricket Club. You can find the link to our club kit shop on the Ashley Cricket Club Pitchero website. Otherwise search for ashleycc.visioncricket.com on the internet and you will find all of the club kit and more.

Thank you to all of our sponsors for their contribution to our club. The full list of sponsors can be found on our Pitchero site. These local businesses lend their expertise and give their hard earned cash to the club to help us with the cost of things like match balls, team shirts, and the cost of running a club like Ashley.

We said goodbye to our Australian overseas player, Tom Marron, at the end of the season. He was a great addition to our club this year by turning out for the first team and supporting our junior coaching section. He was a hit with both his team mates and the juniors. Thank you Tom and we hope that your cricket season back in Australia is going well.

We had another successful Sporting Dinner in March 2024. This is our most important fund raiser for the club and marks the start of every new season. The speaker was the legendary Johnathon Agnew who announced his retirement from BBC cricket commentary shortly afterwards. I hope it wasn’t it something we said!

The next Sporting Dinner will be held on the 14th March 2025 where we will welcome David Gower as speaker. This will be a very popular evening and tickets will fly out of the door. If you wish to register your interest for tickets early please let Brian Birtles know. They are £60 each and includes an entertaining evening with David Gower, a comedian and a three course dinner followed by an auction of sporting memorabilia.

There were a number of social events organised throughout the year. We held a Family Day for the first time which was blessed with amazing weather and proved to be a great success. There were various activities dotted around the field and a six aside competition. This was fiercely fought and won by The Wigfield, Gower and Whitehurst combined team. Hopefully they will be back to defend their trophy in 2025.

Thank you to every volunteer who contributed to Ashley’s busy and successful 2024 season. This is a club run by volunteers who give up their time to make sure that cricket continues to be played at this 136 year old club. If you would like to volunteer in some capacity please let me know. No amount of your time would be too small!

If you are able to sponsor the club in any way or lend your professional skill to us please let us know. Thank you to all of our membership for your support in 2024.

The Annual General Meeting for Ashley CC will be held at the clubhouse on Wednesday 29th January 2025 at 8pm.

Indoor training for 2025 starts on Sunday 5th January 2025 at 9.30am for the Womens and Over 40s. For the other training times please see the timetable on the Ashley CC Pitchero site at www.ashleycricketclub.com

Happy New Year to you all and best of luck for the 2025 season.
